Attention Dave Whitton-Chair
Dave Whitton (Board Chair)
Born in the UK, Dave came to Canada in 1968, and lived in Montreal until 2005. He worked on an International business development team which partnered with governments, space agencies, the science community and industry in the development of systems for the Space Shuttle and International Space Station. Dave retired in 2002 and moved to the Okanagan where he continued with his passion for hiking, the conservation of wild life, and the unique natural environment of the South Okanagan. Dave has been a volunteer for SORCO since 2009 and Chair since 2013. Email
Peter Thompson (Vice Chair)After a 30-year career in the RCMP, Pete was a 10 year College Professor specializing in law enforcement/regulatory enforcement and forensics training. Over the past 11 years, he has helped to transform OSPCA Animal Cruelty Investigations inspectorate with their training modernization and operational procedures. Pete is now a contractual Professor at Langara College in Vancouver, as a key facilitator for municipalities throughout BC. Pete also was a community volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society as a major fundraising volunteer, an advocate for men’s health and leadership. Peter and his wife Susan love the outdoors and are active as hikers, mountain bikers, kayakers and cross country skiers.
Bill Loomis (Secretary) Bill Loomis recently immigrated to the Okanagan after serving a 25 year career as a lawyer in the United States where he lived in Boise, Idaho. He has worked extensively in all aspects of the law especially contractual and administrative matters. Bill is an avid hiker and outdoor enthusiast and is very excited to be part of SORCO.
Ray Putnam Ray Putnam earned his undergraduate degree in Economics and a MBA from the University of Manitoba. Over the years Ray channeled his considerable business expertise and interest toward retail and major brand marketing. Perhaps his most successful enterprise was as an owner/leader of a communications and leadership training business in Ontario and Quebec. After moving out west, Ray has been involved in many community initiatives such as serving as the Team Communications Coach for the Kelowna Rockets and as a SORCO Board member from the Kelowna region.
Corinne Ross Originally from the UK, Corinne worked in South Africa as Assistant Curator at a local Bird and Wildlife Sanctuary that housed over 300 species of birds. She also volunteered at a Seabird rehabilitation centre in Cape Town, working with the endangered African Penguin. After moving to Canada, she became a member of the Kelowna BC SPCA and was voted onto their Community Council. She was later Branch Manager at the Vernon and Penticton BC SPCA locations. During this time she became aware of SORCO and was very interested in their rehabilitation work. Corinne brings valuable experience in the care of both domestic animals and wildlife, plus a wealth of knowledge in the management of not for profit animal rehabilitation centres.
Eve Wegsheidler Eve Wegscheidler is proud to call the Okanagan home as she has lived here all her life. That’s probably reason enough for having such a strong commitment to the preservation of the natural environment in the valley. As well, though, Eve is employed as Education/Recreation Coordinator for Regional Parks at the RDCO in Kelowna, and has a background in Early Childhood Education and local government. No doubt, her varied experiences will be a useful skillset as a SORCO Board member.
